Nice post Lalit. While i agree with most of your ideas I have observed Indian startup failing terribly in marketing them self. Forget about blog and all most of them they don't even have a interesting introduction page about problem they are tying to solve and people behind. Try reading job posting on pluggedin. They stink. No btter then any sweatshop. You will find them hunting for yet another iit/iim code codemonkey.
there is no hardly any scope for atitude, ambition, dream & vision.

Rishi,
You are right, cost of operations in indeed high . It's not necessarily optimum to run a 100 people operations here but even a startup can have a dedicated sales team of 2-3 people mostly working from home / customer premises ..:-)
Regarding finding your niche , you know it better as and entrepreneur.

Well said. As soon as I reach Mumbai via Train or Car, I am engulfed in the fast paced life, which I definitely miss in other cities like Pune and even Delhi. Having been born in Bombay and spent my childhood there, I love it in every way. You just gave me more reasons to defend my stance.

But don't you think that the cost of operations for a startup in Mumbai will be high, compared to other cities? Also, the market is so huge, the entrepreneur is always overwhelmed on how to capture a small size of the huge market.

Very good article. I like the simple differentiation between developers mentioned in the beginning.

The great developer as you have mentioned above, has to constantly take the right decision while finding the bug and fixing the bug. He needs to decide exactly what needs to be changed in the system, as well as how much change is needed. Anything less or anything more affects the release cycle of the software.
